Government and Public Relations Committee

-On May 12, 2005 this committee presented to Joan Debruyn, Director of Home Care, Calgary Health Region.

-In July, 2005 this committee participated in the feedback sessions with the MLA Task Force on Draft Standards for Continuing Care Health Service and Accommodation.

-OnJuly 11,2005, this committee met with Margarite Rowe, Chief Operating Officer Community Care & Mental Health, Capital Health
Our Agenda included a brief discussion of our association, our mandate, an analysis of the current labour market in Alberta, a review of the revenue allocation for a typical home health care agency, and what our bill rate covers. We highlighted the fact that we receive no compensation for travel costs yet travel costs have increased, that we provide 24/7 coordination and supervision, with increased after hours demands, Increased client acuity requiring more (non billable) supervision, etc.We covered industry recruitment issues, and discussed results from June 2005 Survey of Employers in Continuing Care Sector in Alberta. We provided a comparison between Long Term Care facilities and Community care showing the gap between community and facility wages.
